Description:
This report forms part of a long‑term research partnership between the Ministry of Education’s Directorate of Science and Technology and the University of Namibia’s Multidisciplinary Research Centre on Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS). While recognising the broad scope of IKS including cultural philosophies, technologies, environmental knowledge, and water systems this study focuses specifically on Indigenous Technology Knowledge Systems (ITKS): the transformation of natural resources into usable products, processes, and services. The pilot study, conducted in the Oshikoto Region, examines methodological tools for documenting the use and processing of medicinal plants by indigenous healers as part of establishing a national baseline. This baseline will inform future work on scientific validation, commercialization, intellectual property protection, and national IKS knowledge management policies.
