Description:
This paper examines the traditional governance structures of the Choi community and evaluates how these existing local institutions can support community‑based natural resource management (CBNRM). It reviews the community’s socio‑economic conditions, attitudes toward CBNRM, and perceptions of community game guards and wildlife conservation. The study also considers the working relationship between the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, nature conservation rangers, and the Choi community, highlighting how these dynamics influence local participation in resource management. Finally, it assesses the community’s involvement in a joint venture with a safari operator, exploring how collaborative management can generate mutual benefits.
