Description:
This study assesses current and potential non‑agricultural natural resource use across 37 zones in four communal areas of northern Namibia. By linking field data to national economic valuation work, it develops detailed zone profiles that estimate contributions to National Income and benefits to local communities. The results support planning for resource management, protected areas, tourism development, and community‑based initiatives. Findings show that non‑agricultural resource use particularly tourism has significant potential to stimulate economic growth, especially in areas adjacent to protected areas where buffer zones can maximise both ecological integrity and local income. The study highlights the need for regular data updates and expanded coverage to guide future investment and policy decisions.
