Description:
In June 2024, the University of Namibia’s School of Nursing & Public Health partnered with Idaho State University to address maternal and neonatal mortality through specialised training and equipment provision. Healthcare providers were trained in Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) and Helping Baby Breathe (HBB), targeting Namibia’s elevated mortality rates, which fall short of Sustainable Development Goal 3 benchmarks. This first-of-its-kind initiative introduced simulation-based training supported by ISU professionals and culminated in the donation of advanced obstetric simulation equipment. The collaboration strengthens midwifery capacity at UNAM and marks a transformative step in improving obstetric outcomes and clinical preparedness across Namibia.
