On April 11, 2024, Professor Kenneth Matengu—Vice-Chancellor of the University of Namibia and President of the Pan-African University Council—signed a landmark agreement at the Global Gateway High-Level Education Event in Brussels, securing access to €970 million in funding for African universities. This funding, available through competitive bidding, supports Erasmus and Intra-Africa mobility schemes. The Youth Mobility for Africa Flagship Initiative aims to enhance intra-African and Africa-EU academic mobility, foster skills development, and position Africa as a globally attractive higher education destination.
