This study was about the coverage of business reporting in newspapers. It looked at the extent to which business news is reported in newspapers. This report attempted to explore the importance of the newspapers from a perspective of business reports in order to develop more precise hypotheses about the communicative environment of business and newspapers. Focusing on the development of business news and business journalism in Namibia in the period of two months (June and July 2005), a three-step institutional analysis of business news is presented: 1) a description of the changing context of business news in a long historical perspective; 2) a quantitative description of the development of business news as a textual practice in recent decades; and 3) a qualitative description of trends in how business news is constructed. Based on this analysis, a tentative model of business reporting in newspapers was proposed that highlights the differentiation, specialization, professionalisation and autonomisation of business reporting in newspapers in the Namibian context |
