dc.description.abstract Abstract by author: en_US
dc.description.abstract Control practices for the major cattle diseases in northern Namibia were investigated. Findings indicate that CBPP [contagious bovine pleuropneumonia], black quarter, botulism, anaplasmosis, foot and mouth disease, anthrax and 3 days stiff sickness were the major cattle diseases found in the area and different standard and traditional remedies are applied for their control and treatment. Annual vaccination campaign against some diseases was the main standard control practice for cattle diseases. It was also found that the effectiveness of control measures for cattle diseases is hampered by some factors that include the insufficient number of veterinary personnel and malpractices within the traditional livestock management systems en_US
