dc.description.abstract The dissertation is divided into five chapters. Chapter One is the introductory chapter. In it I will briefly look into the background to the adoption of the Convention... and the provisions in the Convention relating to the legislative and administrative measures necessary for the protection of childrens' rights. Article 15 of the Namibian Constitution will also be canvassed. Chapter Two consists of a brief overview of the birth of organized child protection in the United States of America. dc.description.abstract Chapter Three deals with the establishment of the Women and Child Protection Unit in Namibia. In this chapter I focus on the background of the Unit's establishment, the aims and objectives of the Unit, the structure of the Unit, and the procedures used by the Unit in handling cases of breaches of the rights of the child. Chapter Four is a short comparison of the work done by the Namibian Unit with that of the Child Protection Unit of the South African Police. In Chapter Five I will make recommendations on how to make the Unit more effective in protecting the child's rights en_US
