In tracing and analysing the history, establishment and activities of the Nyangana Roman Catholic Mission Station since 1910, the study pays particular attention to the ways in which its activities largely influenced the socio- cultural, religious and educational life of the Vagciriku people in whose geographical area, the mission was established and is located

An objective though critical evaluation, of the results of such effects (both past and present) are attempted

Earlier and/or existing research work on this subject is scanty, and consequently not generally available to the many, who might be interested in further extensive and critical investigative research of the subject. The thesis is an attempt, and only an attempt, in highlighting important events in the history of the Nyangana Mission

The present study, albeit very superficially, aims to contribute to a general understanding of this subject or topic. In this regard I am, in harmonious agreement with Kampungu when he wrote that: "Others who will write after us, using our humble efforts and materials, may fare better and continue the work to completion and perfection. " [Kampungu, R., Concept and Aim of Okavango Marriages, p. 8]

By way of summary this study has a particular objective and that is: to satisfy the requirements, as an academic piece of research work in partial fullfilment for the degree of Honours at the University of Namibia. It is however my sincere hope that it will contribute in stimulating both further discussion and more comprehensive research
