dc.description.abstract Introduction. General:- During 1940 the Union Geological Survey sent a party of geologists to investigate the geology and mineral industry of the Otavi mountains in SWA. The country mapped comprises an area of approximately 1 500 sq. miles. Detailed work was done on the 1 000 sq. miles which have been serially photographed, lying between the towns Otavi, Grootfontein and Tsumeb. Furthermore to the north of Tsumeb, at Bobos and at Berg Aukas, plane table mapping was done, thus extending the work to covert the major portion of the mineralised copper-vanadium area. This country lies between the meridians 17° 25' to 18° 15'E longitude and 19°10' to 19°45'S latitude. The area extending from Harasib in the N. E. to Eisenberg in the S. W. (see map) was mapped by the author en_US
dc.description.abstract Previous work: Drs Stahl and Schneiderhöhn have done most of the past work here, while Wagner, Clark, Kuntz, Range, Rimann, Beetz, Jaeger and Reuning are among others who have also made studies of it en_US
dc.description.abstract Base maps: The plane table work was done on a scale of 1: 100 000, the base maps being obtained from the Surveyor General's office, Windhoek. The scale is 1:10 000 with however specially enlarged photos of 1:5 000 being utilized for the Baltika and Abenab areas en_US
