This paper examines the socio‑economic status of San communities living in the Uukolonkadhi, Sheya Uushona, and Anabeb conservancies, as well as their involvement in Community‑Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM) initiatives. It provides an overview of the San as Namibia’s Indigenous Peoples, highlighting their historical marginalisation, limited access to rights, and geographic dispersion across the country. The study assesses the extent to which San households participate in conservancy activities, reviews interventions implemented under the Indigenous Peoples Development Plan (IPDP) of the Integrated Community‑Based Ecosystem Management (ICEMA) Project led by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, and offers recommendations for improving support to San communities within conservancy structures. The report contributes to understanding equity, inclusion, and Indigenous Peoples’ rights in Namibia’s CBNRM framework. |
