Rap music is often identified with violent and misogynist lyric portrayals.This study examines the stereotypes that people hold about rap music fans. Based on previous research, it is hypothesized that rap music fens would focus on traits and behaviors that are self destructive, and threats to others. The results support the hypothesis. In addition the study examines whether the lyrics of rap music have an effect on mood, suicidal ideation, sexual misconduct and aggression of adolescents
The study was carried out within the Khomas region of Namibia. It involved the use of the survey method of research, focus group discussions and a content analysis of rap music's violent and misogynist lyrics.
