Aquatic plants, namely, green and brown algae were investigated under three different irradiation regimes. The aim was to determine their survival and adaptation rate. Submerged plants were tied to a fine rope to avoid floating and emerged plants were placed in petra dishes. Two replicates were used per filter. Three types of filters were used, namely: (a) plex glass which allow UV A, UV B and PAR, (b) plex glass + film allows UV A and PAR and cuts off UV B, (c) makroloan allows PAR only and cuts off UV A and B. PAR stands for photosynthetically active radiation. UV metre called Dr Grobel was used to measure UV-A (320 to 400 NM) and UV-B (280 to 320 NM). Measurements were taken and recorded hourly. Submerged green algae showed no sensitivity to UV radiation and emerged green algae showed patches of sensitivity. The same applies for brown algae. These results were similar in all treatments or filters
