dc.description.abstract Abstract by author: en_US
dc.description.abstract Namibia exports a substantial amount of its cattle to South Africa on hoof and also to Europe after home slaughtering. The latter result is a great deal of offal to be left behind for domestic consumption. The primary consumers of these offals are the lower income groups, which in fact consider offals as a delicacy. This group of people lives primarily in Katutura and Wanaheda when one considers the city of Windhoek. The incidence of Salmonella was investigated in edible animal offals, chicken offals and eggs used as food by people in the city. The significance of the results was assessed to determine whether further investigation would be required to determine appropriate intervention (s) to be taken to make the food safe for those who consume it regularly in the city of Windhoek en_US
