dc.description.abstract Abstract provided by author: en_US
dc.description.abstract Namibia obtained its independence on the 21 March 1990. The year 1990 marked a new beginning for the people of Namibia. Before the work of government could begin, a constitution had to be drawn up. This task fell to the 72 politicians or lawmakers elected by the people of Namibia. They formed the Constituent Assembly, the body that wrote the constitution. The constitution was based on the constitutional principles drawn up in 1982 by the five Western powers (the western contact group) namely United States of America, Canada, France, Germany and Britain in consultation with the parties to the peace negotiations, namely South West Africa People's Organisation (SW APO) and South African government en_US
dc.description.abstract This exploratory study aims at defining the role of the Church in the struggle for independence in Namibia. The hypothesis is that the Church became more involved in the development of political affairs before and during the struggle for the independence of Namibia, especially during the period of 1960 to 1990 en_US
