Quantitative (100 students from the faculty of Education) and qualitative (5 key informants) research methods were used in the collection of data
The study found that risky sexual behaviour among female youths is due to resistance in behaviour change. Despite a lot of information being provided, it has been identified that female youth do not take the message seriously and this has acted as an obstacle to behaviour change. However, lack of mobility among female youths due to restrictions imposed on them by their parents or guardians hinder them from seeking information
Peer pressure is seen as the main contributor to risky sexual behaviour because being in an environment has an unconscious and oppressive force that propels us to be like each other. People want to belong to certain groups such that they do not realize the dangers that come along with certain behaviours. Furthermore, poverty has pushed female youths to seeking favours from sugar daddies. They exchange their bodies for small gifts such as perfumes, money to buy food for the family, etc. Lack of knowledge on how biological factors such as differences in the genital tract areas of male and female can contribute or put one at a higher risk has been identified as another major contributing factor for HIV/AIDS. All the above revealed factors are crucial as to how female youths can be helped in changing their risky sexual behaviour
