Based on this theoretical background, an empirical study was launched; an interview guideline ws devised; and senior primary class music teachers at Damara schools were interviewed. Results of this survey appear to indicate a number of deficiencies regarding musical and genreal competencies and skills, which in turn seem to be centered mainly in inadequate training in music and teaching practice. Suggestions are therefore forwarded regarding various ways of developing instructional competencies and skills
