Description:
UNAM’s Ogongo Campus, in partnership with the University of Turku (Finland), launched the “Community Driven Tree Planting in Namibia” project across Omundaungilo, Oshikunde, and Okongo constituencies. Supported by €67,700 in seed funding, the initiative empowers local communities to restore dryland ecosystems through training workshops, distribution of indigenous seedlings, and collaborative planting models. Led by a multidisciplinary team of Namibian and Finnish researchers, the project blends traditional knowledge with scientific techniques such as composting and biochar to enhance soil health, biodiversity, and climate resilience. It affirms Ogongo Campus’s growing role as a regional leader in ecological research and community-based sustainability.
