Professor Petrus Angula Mbenzi, a scholar of Oshiwambo language and culture, has devoted his academic career to the preservation and advancement of indigenous linguistic heritage. As UNAM’s longest-serving full-time Oshiwambo lecturer, he has championed the study of Oshindonga, oral literature, and traditional knowledge systems, contributing to Namibia’s cultural scholarship through teaching, broadcasting, and numerous publications. His journey—from a mission school in Oniipa to a PhD in Rhetoric—illustrates the importance of indigenous language studies in promoting identity, values, and social cohesion. Professor Mbenzi’s work remains instrumental in encouraging youth to embrace their linguistic heritage and pursue scholarly excellence in African languages.
