dc.description Dr. Laina Mbongo, a trailblazing public health researcher from Ofudheni village in Namibia’s Oshana Region, has earned her PhD from the University of Namibia with a dissertation focused on the statistical modelling of dietary diversity and its link to non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Her research, supervised by Professors Lawrence Kazembe and Lillian Pazvakawambwa, reveals that Namibians’ starch-heavy diets and low intake of fruits and vegetables contribute significantly to rising rates of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Now working at the National Planning Commission, Dr. Mbongo is uniquely positioned to influence national health and food security policies. Her journey—from modest beginnings to academic and policy leadership—underscores the transformative power of education and the urgent need for nutrition-focused public health strategies in Namibia. en_US
