dc.description.abstract Abstract by author: en_US
dc.description.abstract The report highlights major types of fishing gear used in the eastern Caprivi floodplains catch variations with different mesh sizes of fishing gear and marketing of fish in Katima Mulilo. The report recommends the creation of proper management institutions and mechanisms that could sustain the level of effective fishing effort and use of different types of fishing gears. The relationship between fish sizes and price demonstrates that consumers prefer big fish. A wide price-size discrepancy exists between sea fish and freshwater fish. Though data were limited, freshwater fish seem to command higher prices than sea fish. Marketing information is crucial to fisheries development and helps to indicate which fish species and sizes are preferred by consumers en_US
